June 2, 2011- The hospital scale

I went in for minor surgery today and wasn't too worried until I stepped on the dreaded hospital scale.  Yikes! I had hit a number I haven't seen for twenty years. 190 lbs. My heart almost stopped and then next thing I knew they were knocking me out with anesthesia.  When I finally came home later in the day my head cleared and the next thing I knew I was looking up the Dukan diet. Now I'd been reading about this for a couple days, but today was war on fat day so I paid a little more attention.

Let me say that I have probably tried every diet out there over the years but this past year I let my self go with a vengeance. I put away the scale, ate whatever I felt like and compounded my problem by going to work in a very large office with a lot of people and a lot of food.  I hadn't worked in an office setting for a long time and had forgotten how many reasons there are to eat. There are birthdays, holidays, stress days, just because days, the candy jar, the meetings. Too many excuses to count.  So here I am a year and a half into this new job and I have amassed an additional 18 pounds!

Just to set the record straight in the beginning; my personal weaknesses are many. I love chardonnay, chocolate, Lays potato chips, crackers and cheese, bagels, deli sandwiches and not necessarily in that order. I would just as soon eat a large deli sandwich for breakfast rather than bacon and eggs. I'm also not against birthday cake, cookies, brownies and other sweets although they make me feel kind of sick. More on that later.
